R. Joseph Powell is a Senior Associate Attorney who has joined the legal team at Malik & Associates concentrating on family law. Joe takes a personal interest in his practice, helping clients understand and deal with the often emotionally draining and complex issues that can arise in family law cases. While his concentration is on the family law area within the firm, Joe has personal experience in immigration as well and often bridges work within those areas. Prior to joining Malik & Associates, he practiced family law as a sole practitioner and was formerly the founding partner of a Dallas area law firm. Joe is very experienced in complex litigation in family law involving significant property issues and also in complex children’s issues, Mr. Powell has handled thousands of family law cases including custody disputes, large property disputes and settlements, adoptions, child support issues, and child protection issues.
Joe graduated from Baylor School of Law, where he was associate editor of the Baylor Law Review. Prior to entering law school, Joe spent a number of years in education as a teacher, counselor, and principal for a public school system in Oklahoma. He also has experience in Oil and Gas Land Management and was a Vice President of Land at an oil company in Dallas.
On a personal note, Joe’s commitment to his clients and their families goes deeply into family law concerns with an additional understanding of immigration issues, in that his spouse is from the Philippines and they have been through the immigration process themselves. Joe also has experienced the difficulty of divorce personally, and as a dedicated father is protective of the families he serves. Most of Joe’s family law practice has been in Texas; although on occasion other jurisdiction’s have also been a part of his practice.
